In the Spotlight
Dr. Tim Altanero, associate professor, Technical Communications, published an article in MultiLingual Computing & Technology, which hit the stands earlier this week. The article, “Building a Curriculum for Localization,” features how Austin Community College is taking the first steps toward a training program in partnership with the localization industry.
ACC is the only college ever to be featured in this publication, which is essentially the New York Times of the localization industry.
Bronson Dorsey joins ACC as associate vice president of Facilities and Operations on Dec. 1. Dorsey holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from UT Austin and also is a certified facility manager. He has more than 25 years of experience in design, construction and facilities management, with two of those years at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Alex Matthews has accepted the position of Massage Therapy program coordinator for the Health Professions Institute.
Richard “Bill” Evans, adjunct faculty member, Welding Technology, was recently qualified as a Certified Master Bench Jeweler by the Jewelers of America, Inc. Evans is now one of only three jewelers in the Austin area to qualify as a Master Jeweler. Earlier this year, he received Teaching Excellence Award from ACC.
Catherine MacLaughlin, advising specialist and adjunct faculty member, Riverside Campus, presented a sectional entitled “Texas Rejects Tarasoff”at this year’s Conference of the Texas Counseling Association held Nov. 8-11 in Houston. MacLaughlin, a licensed counselor and attorney, joined more than 2,000 counseling and human development professionals from across the state at this conference, which focused on the most up-to-date issues and techniques in the field of counseling and human development.
Elizabeth Coccia, campus dean of Student Services at Pinnacle and Cypress; Patrick Hughes, history professor at Northridge; Dr. Carole Ann Pierce, Psychology professor at Northridge; Kamil Jbeily, chemistry adjunct faculty at Rio Grande; and Mary Tavcar, technical lab assistant III at Cypress, were honored by their former students in the sixth edition of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 2000.” Teachers in this edition were selected by former students who are themselves currently listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” or “The National Dean’s List” publications. The students were asked to nominate the one teacher from their entire academic career who made a difference in their lives.
