Brief Description of the Principal Self-Assessment

Component Description
Purpose of the EDP II Pilot-Principal Self-Assessment Project Foster a partnership between school principals and MEHE through which  principals:

  • Participate in action research by using the standards and indicators of the self-assessment rubric to assess and reflect on their own practice.
  • Help in validating the self-assessment rubric by providing valuable information and feedback and specific examples of evidence from real school practices to ensure relevance and appropriateness of the self-assessment rubric for the Lebanese Educational Context.
  • Develop a culture of self- assessment that would be reflected on their practices.

Content Self-assessment Rubric includes a detailed description of:

  1. Five domains with their corresponding standards and indicators:
    1. Domain 1: Leadership Values and Vision.
    2. Domain 2: Leading Teaching and Learning.
    3. Domain 3: Leading the Management of the Organization.
    4. Domain 4: Developing Self, People and Teams.
    5. Domain 5: Developing School and Community Partnership.
  2. Examples of evidences that describe principal practices aligned to the standards and indicators for the five domains.
  3. Principal practices across four performance levels (continuum of practice).
Phases

Two Orientation Training Days

(10 hrs.)

  • Build a shared understanding of the five domains, their standards and indicators.
  • Review and discuss examples of evidence of principal practice aligned to the standards and indicators.
  • Assess principal practices along four performance levels.
  • Identify and collect a range of evidence aligned with principal practices.
  • Practice rating the performance level using the rating process described in the principal Self-Assessment Handbook.
First Implementation Phase (6-8 weeks)

(30 Working hrs.)

Principals are expected to:

  • Reflect on their current practices and evaluate using the self-assessment tool to rate their performances on only two domains.
  • Provide evidences of practice and supporting documents on the two domains.
  • Identify areas of strength and areas in need of growth.
  • Reflect on the process and provide detailed feedback to identify areas of standards/rubric that require clarification/fine-tuning.
Follow-up Day

(5 hrs.)

Principals share experiences by:

  • Presenting a sample of their work.
  • Identifying challenges encountered during the implementation phase.
  • Providing suggestions for improving the mechanism of the self-assessment pilot phase.
Second Implementation Phase (8-10 weeks)

(30 hrs.)

Principals are expected to:

  • Reflect on their current practices and evaluate using the self-assessment tool to rate their performances on the five domains.
  • Provide evidences of practice and supporting documents on a selected domain.
  • Identify areas of strength and areas in need of growth.
  • Reflect on process and provide detailed feedback to identify areas of standards/rubric that require clarification/fine-tuning.
Closing Day

(5 hrs.)

Principals share experiences by:

  • Presenting a sample of their work.
  • Identifying challenges encountered during the implementation phase.
  • Providing further suggestions for improving the mechanism of the self-assessment pilot phase.
